Snehagiri Mithralayam (Old Age Home)

In the modern age, the traditional joint family system has come to nougat in Kerala. As a result of this, today, the love and respect that aged people used to enjoy from the other young members has become a thing of the past. At present, the plight of the aged is such as there is none to pay attention to them in their twilight years.

Snehagiri Mithralayam Home for the aged has been planned to meet this new challenging situation. This Home for Aged is giving solace and consolation to the isolated and neglected people in their old age irrespective of their caste and religion. They are assured of love, care and protection. We conduct counseling sessions, prayer meetings, meditation etc. to enable them to accept their life situation gracefully and meaningfully.

At present, as many as 30 aged people have been sheltered in our Mithralayam Home for the Aged. They are provided with meals, refreshments, medical care, entertainment facilities etc.

Let us work hand-in-hand with one mind and heart out of live for Jesus in order to alleviate the sufferings of the hopeless aged people.

Special School for Mentally Challenged

Snehagiri Mithralayam special school for the disabled children started functioning in the year 1995, with the aim of rehabilitating and uplifting the disabled children. What we would like to give them here is the basic training for their day-to-day activities and provide them with vocational training in simple jobs that suit their varying degrees of mental growth. It is also our great wish that these children obtain equal opportunities, protection of rights and full participation in the society at large.

We, the disabled children desperately crave for your helping hands to help us become useful and productive citizens of the country. Come down, we beseech you.

Tailoring Centre

A tailoring centre for women was started in 1979 under the women welfare society called St.Theresa's Vanithakshemam, a charitable society registered specially for women as a sister concern of Snehagiri Society. 75 women were provided with sewing machines. At this centre lot of women learned cutting and tailoring of garments. In the beginning, women got free tailoring machines from social welfare board after completing the course.

In 1983 "Snehagiri Tailoring Centre" got Government recognition and it reached a standard of an educational institution. This enabled students to appear for the lower and higher courses of KGTE-TEN which is recognized by the state Government. After the completion of the course students got employment in public as well as private institutions including schools. Many women took ordinary training in tailoring for self employment and are leading a successful life.

Later on classes for embroidery, needle work also started. Here admission is for a maximum of 48 students. Special classes are also conducted for ordinary students in morning and afternoons. Concession in fees are also given for poor students.

Computer Centre

In 1989, on the auspices of Nehru Yuvakendra, Thrissur unit, there was a six-month computer training course at Snehagiri. To cope up with the latest electronic development and to bring the educated youth of the area uptodate, a Computer Training Centre at Snehagiri was established on 11th September 1993 with the help of 5 computers. This centre is affiliated to the Indian Computer Education Society of Kochi. Almost 50 students complete the course at Snehagiri Computer Training Centre each year. This computer centre can include software handling and programming. We are also planning to introduce provision for speech development and therapy for handicapped persons and people whose speech facility was impaired by accidents or illness. For this purpose we are planning to develop a speech therapy software in Malayalam and other languages which may be too ambitious for the present. A huge amount is requried for the fulfillment of this project.

Ayurvedic Medicine Unit

The society always stands for giving better living condition of the natives. For that it seeks any opportunity that gives employment to unemployed. A unit of Kandankulathy Ayurvedics is opened in Snehagiri for packing its medicines. It provides job for a number of women.
